How this calculator works

Etsy's transaction fee (6.5%) and payment processing fee (3% + $0.25) are applied to the combined item price and shipping charged to the buyer. The $0.20 listing fee is a flat charge per unit sold. If offsite ads are toggled on, an additional 15% is applied to the total order value for any sale attributed to those ads.

Gross revenue is the item price plus the shipping you charged. Profit is gross revenue minus all Etsy fees, your actual shipping cost, and cost of goods. Effective margin is profit expressed as a share of gross revenue.

About this tool

This calculator shows the real profit for an Etsy sale after every platform fee. Inputs: item sale price, shipping you charge the buyer, your actual shipping cost, cost of goods, and whether you're enrolled in Etsy's offsite ads. Outputs: a full fee breakdown (listing, transaction, payment processing, offsite ads), your net payout, profit after COGS and shipping, and effective margin. Etsy's transaction fee of 6.5% and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 are applied to the combined item price and shipping charged to the buyer.

Frequently asked questions

What fees does Etsy charge on each sale?

There are four main fees. A listing fee of $0.20 per item sold (charged each time a listing sells or auto-renews). A transaction fee of 6.5% applied to the combined item price and any shipping you charge the buyer. A payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 per transaction (for US sellers using Etsy Payments). And, if enrolled in Etsy Offsite Ads, an additional 12–15% of the order total on sales generated by those ads.

What is the offsite ads levy and who pays it?

Etsy automatically promotes some listings on Google, Instagram, and other external platforms through its Offsite Ads programme. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and then purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges you a fee. Sellers who made over $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days pay 12%; sellers below that threshold pay 15% and can opt out. This calculator defaults to 15% when offsite ads are enabled.

Does the transaction fee apply to shipping?

Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full amount the buyer pays, including any shipping charge. If you charge $5 for shipping, $0.33 of that goes to Etsy. Only the shipping you charge to the buyer is included — your actual carrier cost is a separate expense on your end.

Why is my shipping charged to buyer different from my actual shipping cost?

The two are often different. You might charge $5 for shipping but pay $7.50 to USPS, absorbing a $2.50 shortfall. Or you might offer free shipping and absorb the full carrier cost. This calculator separates them so you can see the real impact of your shipping pricing on profit.
